About The Program

Dental Reception Certificate program will provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are related to the fundamental principles of dental office management, especially focusing on the basic dental reception procedures. This program includes the basic concept of client recordkeeping, appointment management, recall systems, insurance claims, financial records, inventory control systems, and more. Students will be provided with a general knowledge of dental software systems and have the opportunity to practice their knowledge utilizing the dental software system.
Learning outcomes address administrative responsibilities, recordkeeping protocols, patient, and practice communications, appointment management, recall systems, patient charting, claim submission, financial records, and more.

This program is associated with Dr. Tom Lee Sedation Dental Group. Dr. Tom Lee Dental Reception Certificate program offers practical and high standards of dental education environment that enables individuals to enhance personal and professional success as a dental receptionist.
To present efficiency for students, the program contains key elements of the dental field that can be completed in the short-term. The admission of this program does not require any exam and work experience. Furthermore, this program offers many opportunities to the graduates by providing an extra one month of practicum at 5 different locations of Tom Lee Sedation Dental.

This is an 8 weeks part-time certificate program.
Students should be fluent in reading, writing, and communication skills in English, and be comfortable using computers.

Learning Objectives

At the successful completion of this program, the student will be able to:

  • Integrate dental administrator’s role and professional responsibilities into dental practice
  • Demonstrate appropriate patient communications, whether it’s verbal, written, and/or digital
  • Explain confidentiality protocols and expectations in dental reception

Program Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Good verbal and written communication in English
  • Comfortable working with computers and learning new software
  • Interest in working in a Dental Office and with a team
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to multitask


Term 1

Introduction to Dental Reception

This course addresses the student to learn about the dental receptionist’s role and professional responsibilities. Course topics include dental terminology, anatomy, and codes that are used in dentistry and dental specialties.

Dental Software and Computer Systems

This course introduces the student to utilize dental software systems to track account receivable and dental insurance claims. Additionally, this course focuses on managing patient charts, record keeping, appointment, filling, recall, dental, and medical information, and inventory systems.

Dental Office Insurance Billing Systems

This course introduces the student to manage dental insurance queries and claims, dental fees and estimates, and financial records. In advance, students are prepared for their practicum in a dental practice.


This course provides an opportunity for students with work-like experience and observes the dental office field. Duration: 2 weeks (4 hours/day) Location: Dr. Tom Lee Dental practices (more information Language: English

Extra Practicum Opportunities (Optional)

Nadya grew up in Bulgaria and graduated from St.Kl. Ohridski University with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in History & Ethnology and minoring in Education in 2000. She moved to Vancouver in 2003 and decided to explore new opportunities. In 2005, she successfully completed the Dental Administration Program at BCIT. In the following 7 years, she worked as a dental office coordinator and administrator, gaining more knowledge and experience in the dental field. She is married and has two young children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
